A maneater leopard has been captured in an iron cage by the forest department after the efforts of several days who was a great terror in Bironkhal block, Pauri Garhwal, having brutally killed a a resident of Bhainsoda village on 22nd June creating panic and sense of insecurity amongst the villagers, especially women and school going children. It may be recalled that several women working in farmlands and school going children have become victims of the man eaters roaming freely in prowl for human flesh near villages, in agricultural fields and houses on roadsides etc. There had been several incidents of these hungry man-eaters entering houses to grab children dragging them several metres away in the nearby jungles brutally killing them. These man-eaters ( leopards) are so blood thirsty in view of shortage of food inside jungles and being disturbed by noise pollution, construction activities n even jungle fires etc that they are now eyeing on human flesh brutally killing them every now and then. In Rikhnikhal block’s Bhaisora village under the jurisdiction of Pauri Garhwal, this maneater leopard had on 22 nd June made its inhabitant thirty eight year old Dinesh Chandra its easy prey who had gone to the nearby bushes in a farmland for excretion. The hungry maneater on prowl for human flesh clandestinely pounced upon Dinesh Chandra and grabbed him by his jaws and dragged him about hundred kilometres in the nearby bushes. After satisfying his hunger he left the highly mutilated body of Dinesh Chandra in the bushes. Facing anger n annoyance of the villagers n surrounding areas the forest department fixed iron cages at the requisite location, near the bushes where Dinesh’s half eaten mutilated body was found. According to the villagers the maneater was seen roaming around the villages for the last three days as it is said that the man eaters usually roam around the area of their earlier attacks, probably in search of another prey. However, when the panicked villagers of Bhainsoda heard the loud roars of the maneater they rushed to the spot finding the maneater caged. The villagers immediately informed the forest department telephonically about the maneater having been captured in the cage. The villagers n people of the adjoining villages heaved a great sigh of relief said Mr. Dhaundiyal of Bhainsoda village. It may be recalled that in April also a maneater was captured in an iron cage who’d killed a three year old girl of Chandramohan Dabral in village. The Duggada Forest range under the Lansdowne forest division had fixed an iron cage to capture the man-eater who got trapped in the cage. This maneater leopard was then ferried to Dehradun Zoo.
