Tragic accident on Kedarnath Dham Yatra route: 59-year-old pilgrim from Maharashtra dies after falling into deep gorge

A tragic accident took place on Monday morning on the Kedarnath Dham Yatra route, where a 59-year-old pilgrim from Maharashtra died after falling into a deep gorge near Chhodi Gadhere, ahead of Gaurikund.

The deceased has been identified as Yashwant Kisanrao Thorat, a resident of Ganesh Nagar, Pune.

According to information, at around 10:06 AM on Monday, he slipped from the path near Chhodi Gadhere and fell into the gorge. As soon as information about the accident was received, teams of SDRF Sonprayag, DDRF, Sector Officer, YMF and Aapda Mitra reached the spot and started the rescue operation.

After a lot of hard work, the pilgrim was pulled out of the gorge and immediately taken to the Gaurikund Health Center, where doctors declared him dead after examination.

After the incident, the process of bringing the body to the district hospital has been started and after post-mortem, the body will be handed over to the family members.

The accident once again highlights the need for safety and vigilance of pilgrims on the challenging mountain paths of the Kedarnath Yatra route.
