Uttarakhand High Court takes seriously the case of favouring an influential minister’s man being allegedly illegally alloted a liquor licence not entertaining the old owner of the liquor vend

licence

The excise department of Uttarakhand is allegedly under question mark as one of the owners of the wine shop has approached the Uttarakhand High Court against the illegal attitude and favouritism of this department and its officers for not renewing his ( petitioner’s) licence rather not even accepting their request for renewal for 2025-26 and onwards despite the hard fact that applicant is already running the liquor shop and thus legally viable to apply for renewal.

The Excise department officers dealing with the case of the petitioner have not only not entertained his request but instead allegedly allocated/ alloted the licence to some other person allegedly close to a cabinet minister of Uttarakhand government.

The Uttarakhand High Court has while hearing the case immediately closed the new shop allocated to the highly influential minister’s favoured person till the finalisation of the case and issued notices to the Excise department of Uttarakhand to submit a detailed report in this regard.

This attitude of the open favouritism to a minister’s person arbitrarily not giving the opportunity to the previous honour to apply for renewal has annoyed the high court which immediately issued orders for the closure of the wine shop and ordered for the detailed report to be submitted by the Excise department officials in this regard.

This case has unambiguously proved that in the state several such applicants must have been victimised and alleged favours given to influential liquor mafia which needs to be probed thoroughly and guilty officers punished without reprieve.

It may be recalled that the Liquor trade in Uttarakhand is flourishing like anything with the government earning 4.5 thousand crores annually through massive liquor sales though unaccounted number of families are being spoiled and addicts losing their lives at younger age with the incurable disease of liver Cirrhosis.
