New Delhi, 3 Sept 2026
Union Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas Hardeep Singh Puri and his wife Lakshmi Puri hosted a memorable evening in the capital to celebrate veteran actor and his dear university friend Kabir Bedi.
Sharing pictures from the party on X, the Minister wrote:
“Lakshmi and I were delighted to host several of our friends to celebrate the veteran actor and a dear friend from my university days, Sh Kabir Bedi Ji.
One of the finest actors of our time, Kabir Ji’s illustrious career spans over five decades and three continents, encompassing Bollywood, Hollywood, European cinema, theatre, and television. He achieved international fame with his iconic lead role in the television series Sandokan in 1978 and remains one of the few Indian actors to have earned significant recognition in international entertainment.
Kabir Bedi continues to add new cinematic and television jewels to his distinguished career and is currently working on a host of exciting projects. I am certain these, too, will be remembered for his powerful and commanding performances.
> It was truly a memorable evening to celebrate an extraordinary actor and a cherished friend of many years.”
Kabir Bedi, 80, who studied with Puri at St. Stephen’s College, Delhi University, is one of India’s first international stars. From Bollywood hits like Khoon Bhari Maang to Hollywood film Octopussy (1983) as villain Gobinda, and Italian blockbuster Sandokan that made him a household name in Europe, Bedi’s career has spanned over 50 years.
The intimate gathering was attended by several friends from their university days and Delhi circles. Bedi, who is currently working on a host of new projects including web series and memoirs sequel, thanked the Puris for the warm evening.
The party celebrated not just cinema, but a friendship that has lasted over five decades from college corridors to public life.
