Thousands Of Acres Being Sold In Uttarakhand, BJP’s Land Law A Deception”: UKD Chief Kashi Singh Airy

Former Uttarakhand Kranti Dal (UKD) chief Kashi Singh Airy has raised serious concern over rampant land sales in Uttarakhand, alleging that government lands are now being eyed by land mafias.
In a statement, Airy said:
“Today, thousands of acres of land are being continuously sold in Uttarakhand. The pace at which land deals have taken place during the BJP government’s tenure is a matter of grave concern. The situation has reached such a point that now allegations have started surfacing of government department lands being misappropriated and attempts being made to hand them over to private hands.
Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has only deceived the people of Uttarakhand in the name of land law. Instead of the strong land law that the people of Uttarakhand have been demanding for years, the BJP government deliberately made a weak law, leaving many loopholes in it. Taking advantage of these loopholes, land mafias and big buyers have found new ways to buy Uttarakhand’s land. As a result, even after the implementation of the new land law, an effective ban on land purchase and sale could not be imposed and the lands of the state continued to be sold as before, in fact at a faster pace.
Today the situation is extremely worrying. The eyes of the land mafia are no longer limited to private lands, but have fallen on government departments, panchayats and forest lands. Uttarakhand’s water, forest and land are not just property, but our identity, culture and the future of the coming generations. They cannot be handed over to profiteers at any cost.
Questions keep being raised on the policies of the BJP government and the hold of liquor mafia, mining mafia and land mafia on the natural resources of the state keeps getting stronger. Whenever BJP comes to power, allegations of protection to big business interests and mafia system intensify, while the common people keep struggling to protect their rights and resources.
Special thanks to the local media of Uttarakhand, which despite limited resources is continuously bringing such public interest issues to the fore and working to make people aware. In a democracy, only an aware media and vigilant public can keep the strongest check on wrong policies of the government.
The youth of Uttarakhand will not allow those policies and intentions of the BJP government to succeed, which pose a threat to the existence, resources and future of the state. We will struggle to protect our water, forest and land and will not allow Uttarakhand to be sold to land mafias and big capitalists.
