People Against SIR Calls For Nationwide ‘People’s March’ On October 23, Announces Jantar Mantar-Style Protests Across Country

New Delhi, 21 Oct 2026:

A broad alliance of civil society organisations under the banner of ‘People Against SIR’ has announced a nationwide ‘People’s March to Restore Democracy’ on Friday, October 23*, along with Jantar Mantar-style protests in different parts of the country.

According to a statement issued by the alliance, the march call was decided in a meeting held on October 14th, which was attended by representatives of student, youth, farmer, worker, women, Dalit, Adivasi, minority, disabled and transgender organisations.

The alliance has given the slogan – “Har Haath Me Tiranga and Har Gali Me Jantar Mantar”.

In its appeal to citizens, the group has alleged that Indian democracy is facing a crisis, that the electoral process has been allegedly “hijacked” and voter lists have been “manipulated”. It has also alleged that the Election Commission is functioning in a biased manner to serve the ruling leadership.

The statement says that youth are on the streets and many are in prison, and calls upon citizens who identify themselves as patriots to join the protest, saying “We can’t afford to wait any longer.”

The organisers have also appealed to political parties of the INDIA bloc to join the October 23rd march and extend support to the protests.

* The Key demands listed by the alliance are

1. Removal and prosecution of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar
2. Scrapping of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls and restoration of all deleted voters
3. Repeal of the amendment to the Chief Election Commissioner and Other Election Commissioners Act, 2023
4. Appointment of a new Election Commission through what it calls an unbiased process, just revision of voter rolls, return to paper ballot, and comprehensive election reforms.

The group has said that the future belongs to the youth and a collective strength is needed to “regain democracy”, concluding with the slogans – “All Power to the People – Constitution will Prevail – Conspiracy will Fail.”

No response has yet come from the Election Commission on these allegations.
