Jyoti Adhikari arrested , sent to jail in judicial custody

Raising her voice in the Ankita Bhandari case and her enthusiastic comments about Kumaoni women and deities proved costly for Jyoti Adhikari. Jyoti Adhikari had been vociferously active in the Ankita Bhandari case raising a sickle and challenging the so called VIPs to come to her for extra service and she will reach them a befitting lesson. Jyoti Adhikari had gone viral in social media extensively by her utterances and challenging tone to the police and authorities including the politicians of the ruling party in Ankita Bhandari case.
After registering a case at Mukhani police station, Jyoti Adhikari was arrested late night by the police after interrogation for more than 8 hours and was produced in the honorable court.
After hearing arguments from both sides, the court ordered Jyoti Adhikari to be sent to jail in judicial custody at around 11 p.m. The case will now be heard again on Friday.
Following the arrest and subsequent judicial proceedings, the case has become a subject of political and social debate. Many believe that Jyoti Adhikari was deliberately framed by the government for speaking out against the Ankita Bhandari case.
Questions are also being raised on social media as to why no action was taken when Cabinet Minister Rekha Arya’s husband was accused of making objectionable comments about women and when Pranab Champion used abusive language against Uttarakhand, why strict action was not taken even then.
On the other hand, many are justifying the police action, saying it was within the law. Currently, the matter is under the jurisdiction of the courts and investigating agencies, and further political and social reactions are likely in the coming days.
