Kawariya assaulted and car vandalised in Manglaur, one arrested, Haridwar police register case

Haridwar: A case has been registered and one person arrested after a kanwariya was allegedly beaten up and his car vandalised in the Manglaur area of Haridwar district during the ongoing Kanwar Yatra. Police said the incident sparked after a kanwar was damaged, and a search is on for other accused. Authorities have also appealed to devotees to maintain peace during the pilgrimage.
According to police, information was received around 8:30 PM on August 1, 2026, about some kanwariyas assaulting another kanwariya near the Golden Dhaba on the highway flyover in Manglaur. The Station House Officer of Manglaur Kotwali reached the spot with a police team. By then, police personnel already present at the location had brought the situation under control.
During initial investigation, police found that an Alto car bearing registration number HR 38 AC 7944 was heading from Haridwar towards Delhi with Gangajal. The driver was also a kanwariya. Near the Golden Dhaba flyover, the car allegedly brushed against a kanwariya’s kanwar, causing it to break.
Following this, a few unidentified kanwariyas allegedly assaulted the car driver and damaged his vehicle.
Police detained one person from the spot. Based on the complaint filed by the victim driver, an FIR No. 388/2026 has been registered at Manglaur Kotwali. Police said identification of other accused is underway and legal action will be taken against them as well.
Haridwar Police has urged all Shiv devotees to observe peace and discipline. “The Kanwar Mela is a festival of faith and devotion. All pilgrims should complete their yatra peacefully, following the law and order. Anyone attempting to disturb peace or take the law into their own hands will face strict legal action,” officials said.
