It may be recalled that the case of Shrishti Kandari had sparked outrage after allegations that she was harassed for dowry and later died under suspicious circumstances Following the complaint and public pressure, police launched a detailed investigation.
Based on evidence gathered, authorities have now taken action and arrested the husband and the sister-in-law who were named in the case. Further investigation is underway to establish the full chain of events leading to Sudhi’s death.
Police said they are collecting statements, forensic evidence and calling records to build a strong case.
The arrests have brought some relief to Sudhi’s family and to people who have been demanding justice, while also reigniting the conversation about dowry harassment and violence against women.
Authorities have urged citizens to report any signs of domestic harassment or dowry demands immediately, so that such tragedies can be prevented.
The Devprayag MLA Mr Kandari met the chief minister Uttarakhand and urged for an in-depth probe. The chief minister immediately ordered a CB – CID investigation in the case and within a few hours the deceased’s husband and sister in law were arrested.
