About one crore government employees have been given a Deepawali gift by the Union Government. The Union cabinet has today passed its decision unanimously to grant three percent increase in the dearness allowance of the central government employees and the pensioners. The Union home minister Amit Shah has congratulated the prime minister Narendra Modi for this special gift to the central government employees as well as pensioners which will benefit about 48 lakh central government employees and 68.62 lakh pensioners at the pan India level. The decision of the Union cabinet will officially come into effect from 1st of July, 2021 and would be additionally 3% payable on existing 28% of the basic pay and pension. The news of this increment in the DA has made the central government employees as well as pensioners happy who cumulatively come to over one crore nationally. The central government will be burdened by Rs. 9.5 thousand crores annually after this three percent hike in DA. According to the latest news the Union Government has increased the DA from 17 to 28% while restoring the DA benefits in July. Though the central government employees are benefited or compensated commensurate with the inflation every year but the employees of the private sector and those in petty jobs are devoid of any governmental economic support to cope with the multiplying inflation especially when the prices of domestic gas, petrol, diesal have spiked high beyond the control of the middle and lower middle classes of the society, including the working class.
