A minor girl attacked by a man eater in Badoli village in Tehri, Garhwal, Uttarakhand, villagers saved her from the deadly grip of the maneater

Uttarakhand’s all three regions, Garhwal and Kumaon including Jaaunsar Bavar are the victims of maneater attacks . The predators’ terror is on such a high spurt that the government’s wild life and forest departments are either not able to or are deliberately avoiding furnishing the exact data on the human kills or injuries at the hands of these cannibals.

On an average, on every third day there is a brutal human kill or grievous injury by maneaters in various parts of Uttarakhand.

Just few days ago a village woman who had gone to cut grass for the domestic animals was the victim of a maneater who pounced on her and attacked on her face, shoulders and the back. However, the brave woman despite giving up, relentlessly fought with the predator finally rescuing herself from the clutches of the maneater leopard after the struggle.

Ecological disasters, natural calamities, excessive rains and cloud bursts incidents leading to overflowing n over flooding of rivers, rivulets, massive landslides, subsidence, cracks in houses and commercial buildings including hotels, schools, offices and displacement of thousands of residents, houses and cars with people being submerged under water, silt and rubble have become a common site in Uttarakhand and states like Himachal Pradesh where losses and human deaths have been colossal.

Apart from these natural calamities, road accidents and vehicles falling in deep gorges are also common sights killing large number of local people, pilgrims and tourists who throng here for religious, spiritual obeisance in Char Dhams and excursions.

However, the predators attacks have become order of the day in Uttarakhand with wild life and forest departments literally doing nothing to decrease these human kills at the hands of the predators nor are trying hard to capture them in iron cages, tranquilizing them and sending to zoos thus, saving the lives of the people.

Instead the chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has enhanced the monetary compensation to the bereaved family of the victim to Rs 6 lakhs from Rs 3 lakhs which is undoubtedly worth praising but do not rid the government from its responsibility to safeguard the precious lives of children, women and men who are becoming the direct targets of these predators roaming freely in Uttarakhand near human habitats on prowl for human flesh.

Just yesterday evening an adolescent village girl of Badoli in Tehri Garhwal was attacked by a man eater who was fortunately saved by the vigilant villagers. The girl and the villagers are badly terror stricken and fear that the man eater will return to the village again to attack more human beings. There is panic all around and in the villages and those living in the adjoining villages have gone indoors and fear of the predator turning back them again, especially during evening hours.

उत्तराखंड के गढ़वाल और कुमाऊं समेत जौनसार बावर तीनों क्षेत्र आदमखोर हमलों का शिकार हैं। शिकारियों का आतंक इतने चरम पर है कि सरकार का वन्य जीव एवं वन विभाग इन शिकारियों के हाथों होने वाली मानव हत्याओं या चोटों पर सटीक आंकड़े देने में या तो सक्षम नहीं है या जानबूझकर टाल रहा है। औसतन हर तीसरे दिन उत्तराखंड के विभिन्न हिस्सों में नरभक्षी जानवरों द्वारा क्रूर मानव हत्या या गंभीर चोट पहुंचाई जाती है। अभी कुछ दिन पहले एक ग्रामीण महिला, जो घरेलू पशुओं के लिए घास काटने गई थी, एक नरभक्षी का शिकार हो गई, जिसने उस पर हमला कर दिया और उसके चेहरे, कंधों और पीठ पर हमला कर दिया। हालाँकि, बहादुर महिला ने हार मानने के बावजूद शिकारी से लगातार संघर्ष किया और अंततः संघर्ष के बाद आदमखोर तेंदुए के चंगुल से खुद को बचा लिया। पारिस्थितिक आपदाएँ, प्राकृतिक आपदाएँ, अत्यधिक बारिश और बादल फटने की घटनाओं के कारण नदियाँ, नाले उफान पर हैं, बड़े पैमाने पर भूस्खलन, भूस्खलन, होटलों, स्कूलों, कार्यालयों सहित घरों और वाणिज्यिक भवनों में दरारें पड़ गईं और हजारों निवासियों, घरों और कारों में लोगों के साथ विस्थापन हुआ। पानी में डूबा हुआ, गाद और मलबा उत्तराखंड और हिमाचल प्रदेश जैसे राज्यों में एक आम बात बन गई है, जहां भारी नुकसान और मानव मौतें हुई हैं। इन प्राकृतिक आपदाओं के अलावा सड़क दुर्घटनाएं और गहरी घाटियों में वाहनों का गिरना भी आम दृश्य है, जिसमें बड़ी संख्या में स्थानीय लोगों, तीर्थयात्रियों और पर्यटकों की मौत हो जाती है, जो चार धामों में धार्मिक, आध्यात्मिक पूजा और भ्रमण के लिए यहां आते हैं। हालाँकि, उत्तराखंड में शिकारियों के हमले आम बात हो गई है और वन्य जीव और वन विभाग वस्तुतः शिकारियों के हाथों होने वाली इन मानव हत्याओं को कम करने के लिए कुछ नहीं कर रहे हैं और न ही उन्हें लोहे के पिंजरों में पकड़ने, उन्हें शांत करने और चिड़ियाघरों में भेजने के लिए कड़ी मेहनत कर रहे हैं। इससे लोगों की जान बच रही है. इसके बजाय मुख्यमंत्री पुष्कर सिंह धामी ने पीड़ित के शोक संतप्त परिवार के लिए आर्थिक मुआवजे को 3 लाख रुपये से बढ़ाकर 6 लाख रुपये कर दिया है, जो निस्संदेह प्रशंसा के लायक है, लेकिन सरकार को बच्चों, महिलाओं के अनमोल जीवन की रक्षा करने की अपनी जिम्मेदारी से मुक्त नहीं किया गया है। और वे पुरुष जो मानव मांस की तलाश में उत्तराखंड में मानव आवासों के पास खुलेआम घूम रहे इन शिकारियों का सीधा निशाना बन रहे हैं। कल ही शाम को टिहरी गढ़वाल के बडोली गांव की एक किशोरी पर एक आदमखोर ने हमला कर दिया था, जिसे सौभाग्यवश सतर्क ग्रामीणों ने बचा लिया। लड़की और गांव वाले बुरी तरह से आतंकित हैं और उन्हें डर है कि आदमख़ोर फिर से गांव में आकर और इंसानों पर हमला करेगा। हम चारों तरफ दहशत में हैं और गांव और आस-पास के गांवों में रहने वाले लोग घर के अंदर चले गए हैं और उन्हें डर है कि शिकारी उन्हें फिर से हमला कर देंगे, खासकर शाम के समय।
