Joshimath Anoop Murder Case – Memorandum to CM and DGP

Today, in connection with the Anoop murder case, a memorandum was submitted to the Chief Minister and Director General of Police of Uttarakhand through SDM Joshimath.
A public meeting was held in the Tehsil premises. Residents of Joshimath and members of Joshimath Bachao Sangharsh Samiti demanded that investigation be started at the earliest, sections of kidnapping and other relevant sections be added in the FIR, the accused be arrested immediately, protection being given to criminals be stopped and compensation be given to Anoop’s family.
After the meeting, a protest march was taken out in the main market near Narsingh Temple. Protesters warned that if swift action is not taken, a larger agitation will be launched.
Local leaders in their address said Anoop Kumar, a local Dalit youth and sole bread earner of his family, was murdered on 16th October in Haridwar and the accused is working in ITBP in Joshimath. They alleged that police made the victim’s family run from Joshimath to Haridwar just to register a Zero FIR, registered the case under light sections of suicide instead of murder, and did not add kidnapping charges despite mentioning in complaint.
