Opinion polls of Tehelka digital gives 38 seats to Congress and 29 to BJP if elections are held today in Uttarakhand

The saffron party in Uttarakhand is all set to be dislodged from power if the elections are held today reveals the Tehelka opinion poll which brings BJP down to 29 seats from its present strength of 47 giving the main opposition Congress a clear cut majority gaining 38 seats with UKD just one seat and two to others which include the BSP. The opinion poll conducted by Tehelka Digital News across all 70 assembly constituencies of the state has shown a sharp reversal of 2022 results where BJP had won 47 seats. According to the survey if polls were held now Congress would storm back to power with 38 seats on its own, 19 more than its present 19 seats, while BJP would be reduced to 29 seats, a loss of 18 seats. Uttarakhand Kranti Dal, which has no representation in the present assembly, is shown opening its account with one seat while two seats have been given to others including Bahujan Samaj Party and independents. It is important to note that this is Tehelka’s opinion poll and not the final election result and actual results will only be known after voting and counting, as different recent surveys have shown different seat projections. In contrast to Tehelka’s anti-incumbency projection, the Times Now Navbharat ground survey released on September 14, 2026 has projected a landslide for the incumbent government forecasting 54 seats for BJP and only 14 for Congress, claiming strong support for Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami across communities with 88 percent backing for women’s reservation and 70 percent backing for his efforts to protect Devbhoomi identity. Meanwhile the State Vibe Tracker for August 2026 paints a much closer contest with BJP alliance leading with 40.9 percent vote share against Congress’s 36.7 percent but with voter satisfaction almost evenly divided with 39.1 percent satisfied and 38.1 percent dissatisfied with the state government and nearly 48 percent expressing dissatisfaction with their local MLA, indicating that BJP’s lead is largely driven by Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s face and party ideology rather than state performance. Adding to the complexity, a leaked internal survey of BJP reported by The Statesman in August 2026 has reportedly suggested that the party may have to deny tickets to as many as 32 of its 47 sitting MLAs due to strong local anti-incumbency to retain power in 2027, while Congress is banking on issues like unemployment, paper leak scams, migration, inflation and its ongoing Parivartan Sankalp Yatra to consolidate its lead shown in the Tehelka poll.
