Delhi PWD Minister Pravesh Verma In Dock After ‘Slap’ Video Goes Viral; AAP Alleges Assault On Youth Exposing Road Scam

Delhi’s Public Works Department (PWD) Minister and senior BJP leader Parvesh Sahib Singh Verma is in real dock after a 46-second video allegedly showing him slapping a young boy who was making a video of Tilak Nagar’s badly damaged road being built by substandard material and his – went viral on social media.
The incident, according to eyewitnesses, took place under a flyover in Tilak Nagar area of West Delhi, where the minister has gone for inspection. One of the AAP MLAs protested showing the minister how the roads being built with substandard material is being pulled out by hand ? The quarrel ensued and in the melee the minister slapped a young boy shooting a video.
Hundreds of people were present when the minister allegedly lost his temper after being questioned by local residents about the extremely substandard quality of road work.
The video, shared by Aam Aadmi Party, shows a large and agitated crowd gathered around the minister. Several people can be seen holding up their mobile phones and recording the confrontation. Security personnel and Delhi police in uniform are also visible amid the commotion. Eyewitnesses allege that after slapping the boy, the situation became tense and the boy who was slapped also pounced on the minister but was stopped by people. The minister in desperation ran away in his car fearing retaliation.
AAP in a post accompanying the video claimed, “Look, when the road scam of PWD Minister Parvesh Verma was exposed on camera by the local public, in a fit of rage, the minister slapped a local youth.” AAP also alleged that locals and AAP MLA Jarnail Singh had confronted him over poor quality of road work and alleged irregularities. b92e
The video has triggered a political storm.
Former AAP Minister Saurabh Bharadwaj slammed Verma in a scathing post in Hindi:
Minister Pravesh Verma is a coward, and killing a child is absolutely shameful.
Hiding behind police protection, attacking a child who was filming him, and then fleeing in a car, shows his cowardice.
The boy was filming the Delhi government, exposing the poor quality of roads built by them.
Try removing your police protection and guards, and you’ll see how brave you really are.
Try confronting this little boy without police and security.
Coward – said the minister also in a video released in facebook.
The BJP government has been claiming that it will make Delhi’s 1400 km of PWD roads pothole-free by November 30, and had even conducted midnight inspections on Africa Avenue recently, with Minister Verma saying quality and durability are top priorities and third-party agencies have been deployed to verify thickness and quality.
However, opposition parties have been alleging massive corruption in road repair tenders, use of substandard bitumen and irregularities after the war situation affected bitumen supply and prices.
Till now, neither Delhi Police nor Minister Pravesh Verma has issued an official statement on the alleged slap. The video by itself does not independently establish the complete sequence of events, but the political temperature in Delhi has risen sharply.
