Tribute to Rifleman Jaswant Singh Rawat: MP Anil Baluni Visits His Birthplace, Announces Jaswant Dwar, Museum and Memorial

Pauri Garhwal Member of Parliament Anil Baluni today visited Badiyun village in Naini Danda block – the birthplace of late Jaswant Singh Rawat of Garhwal Rifles, the immortal hero known as Baba Jaswant Singh who laid down his life after single-handedly killing 300 Chinese soldiers at Nuranang in Tawang sector of the Indo-China border in the 1962 war.
The incident took place on 17th November, 1962. Braveheart Jaswant Singh Rawat was just 21 years old then. He kept the attacking Chinese soldiers at bay for 72 hours and saved Arunachal Pradesh.
MP Anil Baluni bowed to the sacred soil of his birthplace, met villagers and listened to their demands.
Paying glowing tributes, Baluni announced that he will renovate the martyr’s ancestral house and develop it as a memorial and build a grand main gateway called ‘Jaswant Dwar’ at the entrance of the village including a museum dedicated to his valour.
“Rifleman Jaswant Singh Rawat displayed indomitable courage in the 1962 Indo-China war and made the supreme sacrifice for the motherland. His saga of bravery is an inspiration for generations to come,” said Baluni.
He said the martyr’s house will be developed as a memorial and a museum will be built there, in which his valour and the glorious history of the Garhwal Rifles will be showcased. On the demand of villagers, the construction of the entrance gate of the village will also be done.
Baluni further announced that on 17th October – the day of his martyrdom when he killed three hundred soldiers – he will personally visit the place of war at Jaswant Garh, Nuranang, bring soil from there to his village and start the work of the museum and memorial as befitting tributes to this great and brave soldier.
Rifleman Jaswant Singh Rawat was posthumously awarded the Maha Vir Chakra. A temple and a memorial have been built at Nuranang in Arunachal Pradesh in his honour where the Indian Army still maintains a room for him and his belongings.
