Accredited Journalists Association (AJA) with Press Club of India, honors Journalists for their Significant Contributions on National Press Day

The Accredited Journalists Association with Press Club of India organized National Press Day 2024 to honor journalists who have made significant contributions to the field of journalism. The event took place on Saturday at the Press Club of India, Raisina Road, New Delhi, and celebrated journalists’ unwavering commitment to the core values of truth, integrity, and dedication. The program was hosted by Vijay Shankar Chaturvedi, President of the Accredited Journalists Association.
The event commenced at 11:00 AM, with a distinguished group of media professionals, journalists, and dignitaries in attendance. Former Member of Parliament and DPCC President, Shri Jai Prakash Aggarwal, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest and shared his thoughts on the vital role of journalists in building an informed society. He remarked, “On National Press Day, I extend my congratulations to all journalists. Independent, impartial, and fearless journalism is the foundation of our democracy. The true duty of a journalist is to convey the truth to the public fearlessly. I deeply respect their efforts to bring about positive change in society.” He also praised Vijay Shankar Chaturvedi for his work on behalf of journalists and highlighted the core values of journalism—truth, service, and responsibility—while warning against the misuse of its power. Furthermore, he urged young journalists to maintain honesty and dedication in their work.
The program was inaugurated by Gautam Lahiri, President of the Press Club of India, who emphasized the importance of a free and responsible press. He highlighted the role of unity in journalism, stating, “Journalism should not be divided; it should promote dialogue. Today is Journalism Day—let us work together for its integrity and well-being.” He referred to the Press Club as “the second home of journalists” and described its representation in the Press Council as “a significant achievement.”
A key highlight of the event was the release of a special commemorative publication by Shri Ramakant Goswami, former Minister of the Delhi Government. During the release, Shri Goswami discussed the changing landscape of journalism and stated, “Journalism, media, and integrity are all evolving. Therefore, we must address persistent challenges with clarity and determination.”
The publication acknowledges the achievements and dedication of journalists who have made substantial contributions to the industry and continues the tradition of recognizing journalistic excellence on National Press Day. Dignitaries present at the event included Shri Rajkumar (Additional Director General, PIB), Shri Prakash Vaidya (Director, Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan), Shri Neeraj Thakur (General Secretary, Press Club of India), and Shri S.K. Bhandari (Retired IAS and former Secretary, Government of India).
Vijay Shankar Chaturvedi, President of the Accredited Journalists Association, praised the Press Club for its commitment to journalists, stating, “The club has always stood by its members and worked for their welfare. Whether it is addressing challenges from the government or other issues, we continue to resolve journalists’ problems. This club is not just a club; it serves a much larger purpose.” He also appealed to the government to provide free metro travel for accredited journalists.
Shri Kaudale Channappa, General Secretary of the Association, elaborated on its objectives, stating, “Our organization works to improve the welfare of journalists and their working conditions. Our key demands include restoring railway concessions, providing free medical treatment at private hospitals, consistent government advertising support, and establishing a pension scheme for journalists above 60 years of age.”
Manoj Sharma, Director of PR Guru, said, “On National Press Day, I salute the dedicated journalists who tirelessly work to raise awareness in society with fairness and integrity. Media freedom is the soul of democracy, and preserving it is our collective responsibility. Only impartial journalism can build a strong society.”
