A leopard ” maneater” enters a dilapidated house in village Kathur, Patti Sithonsiun, Pauri Garhwal in Kot block. Panic all around, caged fixed to trap the maneater

There is panic and an environment of terror in a village “Kathur” Sithonsiun , Pauri Garhwal , Uttarakhand the largest village in the entire developmental block of the district namely Kot block.

The reason is entering of a dreaded leopard in a dilapidated house of village Kathur where live about three hundred inhabitants.

According to the latest news in a year’s time this is the third instance when a leopard ” maneater” has entered the village.

The panic residents have informed the forest and wild life department which has sent a rescue team who’d with the help of the villagers fitted the strong iron cage at the main entrance of the ground floor of the house in which the dreaded leopard had entered.

The forest department and the villagers have created noise and made every effort to ensure that the leopard comes out of the house but all in vain as it is believed to be apprehensive hearing local residents surrounding the area and creating lot of noise etc.

It is believed that since the cage has been fixed at the entrance of the room in which the leopard had taken refuge, after some time he may fall into the trap and will be formally caged and then rescued.

Last year too a leopard ” maneater has entered the periphery of the village and the forest department with the help of the villagers after great efforts could trap it in the iron cage.

In Uttarakhand the wild animals especially leopards, monkeys and wild pigs are constantly entering the village peripheries creating havoc as majority of the village population have either shifted to the new houses on roadsides or migrated to towns, cities and metropolis. Moreover, the massive forest fires have also destabilised these wild animals erging out of forests in search of food n human flesh seeking refuge in villages which have become vacant and where shrubs have grown extensively.

The wild animals find the vacant or dilapidated houses with full grown shrubs as the secured place to live and therefore they enter the villages becoming maneaters wandering around in prowl for human flesh.

There is have several instances of maneaters entering villages and grabbing the children or women from house compounds and thereafter taking them in the nearby bushes or jungles making them their prey.
