Uttarakhand CM pays tributes to late Major General B.C Khanduri

Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami today paid tribute to former Chief Minister of Uttarakhand and former Minister of the Government of India, Major General (Retd.) Bhuwan Chandra Khanduri by laying flowers on his portrait at the condolence meeting held at the Late Harbansh Kapoor Memorial Community Hall in Garhi Cantt.

On this occasion, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami said that Major General (Retd.) Bhuwan Chandra Khanduri had a multifaceted personality.

As a disciplined soldier, a visionary administrator, an ideal public representative and a development man of Uttarakhand, he dedicated every moment of his life to the service of the nation and society. The Chief Minister said that revered Khanduri ji was such an epitome of dedication, honesty, simplicity and national service, whose life will continue to inspire purity and dedication in public life.

Recalling his military career, Chief Minister Dhami said that while serving in the Indian Army, he displayed unparalleled courage, leadership, and strategic acumen during the 1971 Indo-Pak War. He also made significant contributions to the development of border areas and the construction of infrastructure through military engineering works. For his outstanding service to the nation, he was awarded the ‘Ati Vishisht Seva Medal,’ a testament to his dedication to duty.

The Chief Minister said that even after retiring from the Army, Khanduri’s commitment to public service remained unwavering. After being elected as a Member of Parliament from the Garhwal Lok Sabha constituency in 1991, he strongly championed the demand for a separate Uttarakhand state in Parliament, representing the region five times as a Member of Parliament, taking the voice of the hills to the national stage. His powerful ideas and commitment to public welfare energized the statehood movement.

The Chief Minister said that as the Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways, Khanduri played a significant role in strengthening the country’s infrastructure. His contributions in accelerating ambitious projects like the Golden Quadrilateral and the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana will always be remembered.

As Chief Minister of Uttarakhand, he also made good governance, transparency, and accountability the cornerstones of administration and provided a new direction to the state’s development.

Assembly Speaker Mrs. Ritu Khanduri, former Chief Minister Mr. Bhagat Singh Koshyari along with other public representatives, Swami Ramdev and various saints and a large number of dignitaries were present in the condolence meeting.
