Residents of Dakna village near Champawat badly terrorised after a man eater killed a village woman, this morning

The incidents of man eater attacks and subsequent human kills are on the increase in Uttarakhand with such tragic cases on the rise with the forest department literally doing nothing to ensure the safety of women, children and the senior citizens, becoming their easy prey.

This is indeed, a highly worrisome situation with children and women working in fields or going to jungles to collect fodder for domestic animals, the most vulnerable prey of the carnivores who are freely moving around prowling for human flesh.

Just today a village woman having gone to a nearby forest to arrange grass/ fodder for the domestic animals was pounced upon by a man eater near Dhakna village in Champawat killing her instantly after immense struggle, sending shock waves around.

According to the news pouring in, a women of Dakna village near Champawat , thirty five year old Meena Nariyal at 9 in the morning along with her mates went to a jungle near Hathiya Naula to bring green fodder for domestic animals.

After two hours while the women folks were busy in the jungle, a man eater leopard all of a sudden pounced upon Meena and dragged her badly injuring with other women raising alarm vociferously.

Meanwhile a shepherd nearby informed the villagers in desperation who came along and tried to save her from the clutches of the leopard who by then had grievously injured her profusely bleeding. The man eater had left the woman dead on the spot as half of her head was literally missing having completely damaged her skull. Her other body parts were also damaged badly sending shock waves around.

The angered and exasperated villagers have demanded tracking down of the man eater immediately and if need be shot him, by hiring the professional hunters. The villagers n the residents of adjoining villages are in the immense state of shock demanding kill of the man eater at all costs.

The Vanadhikar Andolan Samittee has been demanding Rs fifty lakhs as financial compensation to the bereaved families of those killed in such tragic carnivore attacks with a government job tk next of the kin, but of no avail. The human kills have become the order of the day in various parts of Uttarakhand with lives of people living in villages especially near jungles and roadsides in extreme danger
