A major accident occurred on Tuesday evening during a training exercise of the Army’s Special Forces at Hathnikund Barrage in Yamunanagar, Haryana.
According to information, jawans were being given training to de-board from a helicopter onto a motorboat. During this, the motorboat developed a technical snag and amid strong current, the jawans fell into the water.
Three jawans somehow managed to swim to safety, but two commandos were swept away in the strong current and are still missing.
Following the accident, teams of Army, Haryana SDRF and Uttar Pradesh SDRF are carrying out a massive search operation. IAF helicopters are also being used to search in the downstream area.
In view of the strong flow, efforts have also been made to reduce the water level in the canal. The crashed motorboat has been recovered.
At present, the biggest challenge is to trace both the missing commandos as soon as possible amid the strong current.
