On March 23, 2026, a massive boulder suddenly fell from the hill onto the road near Tangni Belakuchi (Jyotirmatha), leaving a truck stranded and causing long queues of vehicles on both sides. The situation quickly escalated into a traffic jam, causing significant inconvenience to commuters.
Meanwhile, the police force, who arrived at the Helang outpost on receiving information, began efforts to restore traffic. Constable Vinod Shah and his team, demonstrating their promptness, stepped forward and began breaking the heavy boulder with a hammer. With the support of local residents, the boulder fragments were removed from the road and the blocked road was reopened for traffic.
Local residents and travelers present at the scene expressed their gratitude, praising the policeman’s spirit and dedication.
The income dents of boulder falling in Uttarakhand especially on the all weather roads route and Chamoli district is a common phenomena with several accidents and fatalities occuring with traffic jammed for hours together. Though usually when such incidents occur the concerned authorities are waited for with Buldozers arriving at late hours and traffic jammed for several hours causing inconvenience to tourists, commuters but the Chamoli police deserve to be complimented for this noble work taking the job on their hands and doing the needful themselves giving relief to commuters.
