Daiki Axis India to Set Up Johkasou STP Manufacturing Facility in Karnataka, Eyes South India Wastewater Market

Bengaluru, Mar 11: Daiki Axis India Pvt. Ltd., a subsidiary of Japan-based Daiki Axis Co., Ltd., plans to establish a Johkasou-based decentralised sewage treatment plant (STP) manufacturing facility at the Japanese Industrial Park in Tumkur near Bengaluru as part of its expansion in India’s growing wastewater treatment market.
A senior delegation from the company met Karnataka’s Minister for Large and Medium Industries M. B. Patil, along with senior officials including the Principal Secretary, Industries Department, and the Commissioner for Industrial Development, at the Minister’s office in Bengaluru.
Mr. Patil said the Government of Karnataka remains committed to promoting sustainable industrial growth while maintaining an investor-friendly environment.
“Karnataka is committed to fostering an investor-friendly environment while encouraging industries that contribute to sustainable development.
Investments in advanced technologies such as decentralised wastewater treatment will support economic growth while protecting the environment and strengthening long-term water sustainability in the state,” he said.
The proposed facility will be developed under the Make in India initiative and will cater to the rising demand for decentralised wastewater treatment solutions across South India, driven by increasing urbanisation, water scarcity and the growing focus on treated wastewater reuse.
The Tumkur unit will be Daiki Axis’ third manufacturing facility in India and will produce packaged sewage treatment systems based on Japanese Johkasou technology, widely used in Japan for decentralised sewage treatment and wastewater recycling.
Johkasou systems are gaining attention in India following a Government-to-Government Memorandum of Cooperation between India and Japan aimed at promoting decentralised wastewater treatment solutions.
The introduction of a Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) standard for packaged sewage treatment plants is also expected to accelerate the adoption of such systems in residential, commercial and infrastructure projects.
Rio Waza, Managing Director (MD), Daiki Axis India, said:“We are grateful to the Government of Karnataka and the Hon’ble Industries Minister for their continued support. We plan to begin construction of our Johkasou manufacturing facility at the Japanese Industrial Park in Tumkur within the next three months. This plant will enable us to serve the growing demand for decentralised wastewater treatment solutions across South India.”
He added: “Along with manufacturing, we will also invest in services, technology deployment and customer awareness initiatives in partnership with government stakeholders to promote sustainable wastewater management and treated water reuse.”Kamal Tiwari, CEO & Indian Director, DaiAxis India, said the collaboration between India and Japan on Johkasou technology and the introduction of a BIS standard marks an important step in strengthening decentralised wastewater management in the country.
“Karnataka has the potential to emerge as a leader in treated water reuse and sustainable water management.”
The upcoming Tumkur facility is expected to strengthen local manufacturing under Make in India, facilitate technology transfer from Japan, and support the growing demand for decentralised wastewater treatment solutions in India.
