New Delhi, 23 August 2026: A woman was allegedly robbed of Rs 75 lakh in cash and jewellery after being threatened at knife-point by armed dacoits inside her house in Ashok Vihar, North-West Delhi, on Friday evening.
According to the complaint filed at Ashok Vihar Police Station, 2-3 masked men barged into the premises when the woman was alone. They brandished a knife, held it to her neck and threatened her with dire consequences if she raised an alarm or resisted.
Terrified, the woman was forced to hand over the cash kept in the house. The accused then locked her inside a room and fled from the spot with the loot. The total value of the looted amount is estimated to be around Rs 75 lakh, police said.
Locals said the family had recently kept a large amount of cash at home, which suggests the crime was pre-planned and executed with insider information. Police are also probing whether any domestic help or acquaintance passed on information about the cash.
On receiving information, DCP North-West, crime team and FSL team reached the spot. The scene of crime was inspected, fingerprints were lifted and statement of the victim was recorded.
A case under Sections 310 (Dacoity) / 309 (Robbery) of BNS and relevant sections of Arms Act has been registered at Ashok Vihar Police Station. Multiple teams have been formed to scan CCTV footage of the area, trace the escape route and identify the accused.
The incident has once again raised questions over the law and order situation in the capital, with residents demanding increased patrolling in residential areas.
However, the Delhi police resolved the case within no time showing tremendous intelligence, dexterity and dedication.
Six men and two juveniles have been apprehended in connection with the robbery.
The police have recovered ₹51.52 lakh and three mobile phones worth around ₹2.33 lakh.
The authorities also revealed that one of the apprehended minors allegedly orchestrated the robbery out of a personal grudge.
The juvenile, who emerged as the alleged mastermind, was a former employee of the victim’s husband who had been fired for financial misconduct and held a grievance.
The same juvenile was also previously involved in a 2023 murder case registered at Ashok Vihar police station.
Police also said the accused had conducted reconnaissance of the house and the family’s movements for around a month. It was also found that some of the conspirators stayed at a hotel in Sawan Park to assess the situation.
