Two back to back accidents Garhwal. Bus overturned and a Utility van fell 500 metres down in a gorge killing the driver n injuring a woman.
There have been two back to back accidents in Garhwal, Uttarakhand when a bus in which 24 passengers were travelling overturned upside down and a utility van fell in a deep gorge injuring one and a driver of the van dead on the spot. The bus carrying twenty four passengers was returning back from Badrinath after paying obeisance to Lord Badrinath at ancient Badrinath Shrine. All the passengers were from Odisha and were lucky enough to save themselves with only one injured who have been taken to the hospital. The bus overturned at Benakuli 2.5 kilometres away from Hanuman chatti. It was a Mahindra mini bus with number : UK-08-PA 1335. The police called the ambulance and the injured lady was ferried to Community health centre Pandukeshwar by the local police. In another dreaded accident the driver died on the spot when a utility van uncontrollably fell down in a deep gorge at Kaddukhal in Chamba, Tehri Garhwal in which nobody was travelling except the driver. The driver unfortunately died after the van fell down in a gorge 500 feet downwards. The SDRF team reached the accident spot and lifted the dead body of the driver with ropes n stretcher led by rescue team leader Rakesh Rawat. The utility van was heading for Dhanaulti from Chamba, Tehri Garhwal when the driver couldn’t control it felling in the desp gorge. The deceased driver Virendra Singh who was the resident of Chamba, Tehri GARHWAL was lifted through rope and stretcher. Deadly accidents in Garhwal are common feature, especially during the YATRA SEASON when there is tremendous movement of vehicles and human rush, especially tourists and pilgrims. There had been long hours traffic jams on Yatra routes leading to Kedarnath, Gangotri, Yamunotri and Badrinath. Till not more than 4 lakh pilgrims from all over India have reached these four ancient shrines with rush and chaos all around. Due to excessive rains and cloud burst yesterday in a border village of Uttarkashi namely Garhwalgaad several house were badly damaged and several buffaloes buried under the debris of the damaged houses.
