The liquor shop at Rishikesh closed by the protestors after the brutal killing of a young handicapped boy two days ago in front of this shop

The liquor shop functioning at Rishikesh Dhara strot Muni ki Reti in front of which a young handicapped boy was brutally killed by one Ajay Thakur now in police custody and the liquor vend staff didn’t intervened intentionally has been sealed in anger amd annoyance by the protestors after holding protest dharna and demonstrations at the liquor site demanding its closure but of no avail. The liquor vend has been closed with a sealed lock and a notice pasted on its door. The notice addressed to the owner of the liquor shop who is a non Uttarakhandi says as per the sections 22 and 23 of the Uttarakhand’s excise act if the peace is impeached by liquor vend if any licence owner as above, and moral imbalance spreads in the society then the administration or the concerned officer can immediately close that shop. Under the article 21 of the constitution every citizen has the right to lead an honourable and secured life and lifestyle. When the liquor vend becomes the reason of death and violence then the operation of such liquor vends is against the constitutional basic rights of the citizens of that area. If the liquor vend is again opened or restarted it will be construed as the symbol of the injustice, people’s opposition and principles. We are taking the suo moto cognizance of the situation in larger public interest and sealing this liquor shop to maintain peace and dignity in the area which was otherwise being shattered especially after the brutal murder of a young handicapped boy in front of this liquor vend and non interference if its staff knowingly who could have averted this mishappening said the notice addressed to the owner of this liquor vend. It may be recalled that there had been massive protest demonstrations and dharna in front of the liquor shop including jamming the Trijunction at Tapovan demanding arrest of the culprit and closure of the liquor vend at Muni ki Reti Rishikesh considered to be the spiritual township but of no avail. Hence the protestors themselves sealed the liquor vend with a notice signed by few stuck on it.
