After 14 deaths in Champawat due to tragic accident, three teachers die in Garhwal n 2 grievously injured when an Innova fell in a gorge near Dugadda heading for Rikhnikhal. RIP

Today indeed is a black day for Uttarakhand as two tragic accidents led to loss of eighteen lives and several grievously injured.

While, in a tragic accident after a bus in which sixteen persons were travelling including its driver, fell in a deep gorge killing fourteen persons on the spot and seriously injuring two, struggling for life in a nearby hospital in Champawat , about four teachers travelling in a running innova met with a severe accident and the vehicle felling down the road in a gorge killing three teachers on the spot and grievously injuring two persons, who’ve been shifted to the Kotdwar hospital.

According to Devesh Aadmi from AAP and a proactive writer n social activist as well, a group of teachers were travelling in an Innova heading for Rikhnikhal at 9.00 AM this morning when a tragic accident occurred and a vehicle fell down in a gorge resulting in the tragic deaths of Punam Rawat wife of Praduman Singh Rawat, age 45 years, from Maanpur Kotdwar, Chadiyani, Rikhnikhal, Vandana Bhandari wife of Narendra Singh Bhandari, age 42 years, Manpur, Kotdwar, Deepak Shah son of Uttam Singh aged 38 from Shivpur, Dhaamdar, Rikhnikhal.

Those grievously injured are Jaiveer Singh son of Raghuvir Singh of Ratanpur, Sukhron age 58 years and Arun Kumar son of Babulal, 30 years old from Kotdwar. The bodies have been retrieved and sent for post mortem. The accidents in Uttarakhand have almost become the order of the days with tragic deaths occuring almost on every alternative day. We pray to Almighty for rendering peace to the departed souls and pray for the speedy recovery of the injured.

  1. To my mind the following attribute to such accidents;
    1. Not adhering to rules of hill driving.
    2. Over speeding & overtaking at wrong site.
    3. Poor road conditions.
    4. No check on life and maintenance norms.
    5. No front & rear view mirror on bends.
    6. Chatting with driver and cause distraction.
    7. Drunken driving.
    Role of CPWD/ PWD and their supervising elements is lackadaisical.

  2. Careless , drunken and speedy driving are major cause of vehicle accidents on hill roads.
    Judging and reaction time is effected in above situation.
