Former CM Harish Rawat accuses ruling party govt for increasing accidents in Ukhand and suggests ways n means to avert them
The former chief minister of Uttarakhand Harish Rawat today came down heavily on the Uttarakhand saffron party government for the recurrence of unaccounted number of deadly accidents in various parts of Uttarakhand with no concrete solution in sight. Harish Rawat while expressing his serious concern over this unabated accidents in Uttarakhand hills said that on a conservative estimate about 150 people have died during the last six months in these deadly accidents but unfortunately the government of the day seems to be least concerned. Being an experienced leader and the former CM of Uttarakhand Harish Rawat wrote in detail in his facebook post urging the present ruling saffron party political dispensation to control these accidents forthwith highlighting reasons behind these mishappenings claiming several precious lives and suggesting concrete solutions thereof. Harish Rawat writes :
The cries of the horrific vehicle accident in Raitoli near Rudraprayag had not yet subsided when the sad news of four people dying in a car accident in Khirsu and one person dying in Kotdwar when a wedding procession vehicle fell into a ditch and on the other side the news of several people of the same family getting injured when their vehicle fell near Veeron Khal while they were going to Haridwar for Ganga bath, has become a series that is not stopping. We are a tourist state, we should seriously think about these accidents that are happening continuously and whatever steps are necessary to control them, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, should be taken. The year is not over yet, only 6 months have passed and the number of such accidents in which human loss has occurred has crossed 150. I am not giving the number of dead deliberately. If in plain areas over speeding and driver’s fatigue are the causes of accidents then in mountainous areas the worn out tyres of vehicles, drivers not being fully trained and sometimes even intoxication are the causes. People have brought to my notice some more reasons that the tyres of vehicles are getting worn out so much, people are buying small vehicles, there is a lot of competition and the cost of the vehicle and taxes etc. that have to be paid is not being compensated by the rental income so they are driving the vehicles indiscriminately and are not getting the vehicles repaired properly, people are not even able to change the tyres of the vehicles on time, these vehicles supplement the transport system of mountainous areas. We should not keep the state’s income in mind in this, if there is some tax of the government, then it should be reduced to the minimum so that the operation of the vehicle can be profitable for the owner and the lives of the passengers can also be saved, another big reason because I investigated some accidents deeply and found out that the alignment of the roads, the roads which are being built in the mountains, a single contractor is taking over the entire roads and no map is being made for them, job pillars are not being built anywhere, no alignment is being done, it is being left only to the discretion of the contractor and the contractor is building the road with the help of JCB and bulldozer in whatever way he can. It is necessary to keep in mind the alignment of the road and its slope etc. inside the mountainous areas, this can also be a reason, all the new roads being built should be investigated by experts and I hope that the government will be vigilant in this matter. #uttarakhand Pushkar Singh Dhami Indian National Congress Uttarakhand
