DCW’s notice to DELHI Police on CCTV cameras in Police Stns & Police Posts!
The Delhi Commission of Women has served a notice to the Delhi Police to acquaint the Commission about the exact status of the CCTV cameras installed in the various police stations and police posts of National Capital Territory of Delhi after the relevant directives issued by the Supreme Court of India to all the states and territories of the country to ensure that the CCTV cameras with night vision and audio recording in 2020. It has also asked to submit several other details of the police stations apart from status report on CCTV cameras installed in police stations of Delhi. In a notice issued to Delhi Police addressed to Deputy Commissioner of Police, Central District, New Delhi the chairperson of Delhi Commission of Women Swati Masiwal has referred to the directives of Supreme Court to provide CCTV cameras in all the police stations of Delhi writing that the honorable Court had issued directions to ensure greater transparency and accountability in the functioning of the police. Seeking detailed information in this regard DFW chairperson through her notice has asked the DCP central District to provide transparent information about provision of number of CCTV cameras in all police stations in the following format : (1) With video recording facility, (2) with audio and video recording facility and ( 3) With Night vision. She has also asked information about total number of rooms in Police stations barring toilets.
In addition to these information Swati Maliwal inquired information regarding total number of non functional CCTV cameras and the dates since when these cameras are faulty and strict instructions with assurances to rectify them at the earliest. She also asked about the locations where these CCTV cameras are installed and if not then the reasons there off. Information has, also been sought on CCTV cameras, provided in police posts and those faulty with reasons not to rectify them. She also asked whether the police stations have made any request to install more CCTV cameras in police stations left our or existing need for the same. Giving the deadline for 26 November DFW chairperson Swati Maliwal has written that since the gravity of the situation demands so she expects all the information to be duly furnished to DCW by the said date.
