DCW chairperson castigates Delhi police. Says women are insecure after she was dragged for 15 minutes by a drunk driver yesterday night near AIIMS
Delhi seems to be completely unsafe for women as just after few days of Anjali being dragged for several hours in Kanjhavla and Sultanpuri during midnight and finally meeting her tragic end by five culprits after getting stuck in a from tyre, the chief of Delhi Commission for Women Swati Maliwal too was dragged for fifteen minutes incessantly by another culprit during midnight in front of AIIMS yesterday while she was on inspection at the bus stop there. The culprit was badly drunk. According to the DCW chief she was inspecting the situation at midnight at AIIMS whether the police petrolling is being done on roads or not. In order to check the situation at odd hours being a lady she stood at a stop near AIIMS and was shocked to see few cars, even trucks stopping near her with lewd remarks, gestures and even asking to drop her somewhere. She refused saying that her family is coming but they continued to gaze her and passed lewd remarks. One man in a Baleno car namely Harish Chandra badly drunk ( in inebriated condition) approached her while on a driving seat, asking her that he will drop her. On refusing and scolding him, he went ahead but after few minutes he took a U turn and came again pestering her again and again. When she refused and objected trying to oppose his lewd gestures he rolled up the window pane and speeded the car with her hand stuck, dragging me for fifteen minutes said Swati Maliwal. Terrified she then called on 112 twice but there wasn’t any response. Meanwhile she saw a police van nearby and gave them her reference. It was then that the DCP and all senior police officers came. Swati Maliwal said that if one is connected with higher ups or an important personality then the police acts but what about other women who are not influential ? asked DCW chairperson. She said she had visited Kanjhawla site, except there, on other locations where she had gone for inspection including Munirka etc she could see police in night hours. She even questioned that on the day of Anjali’s murder in Kanjhavala case from 2.22 AM till 4.00 AM several calls were made at Police control room but there wasn’t any response. This is how our police works. I will issue notice to them that if a Delhi Commission for women chairperson is dragged as was Anjali and police is absent than what would be the fate of a common woman. Had my team member not shouted or come to my rescue yesterday night I would also have met the same fate as Anjali said Swati Maliwal. Meanwhile, the culprit was caught within half an hour of the incident said Swati Maliwal since she was the victim and the police got into proactive mode but is it the case with an ordinary woman victims questioned DCW chief. Meanwhile, Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejrival strongly condemned the incident tweeting : What condition has become of law and order situation in Delhi ? The courage of goondas has gone so high that even the chairperson of Delhi Mahila Ayog is not safe. In Constitution this is the only work given to LG Sir. LG Sir is requested to give up politics for some day and concentrate on law and order situation. We will fully cooperate with him tweeted Arvind Kejrival.
