Border Lifeline Snapped In Arunachal – Key KKG-BSB Bridge Over Lohit River Collapses

Anjaw, Arunachal Pradesh, 2 Sept 2026 – Arunachal Pradesh’s border lifeline has snapped. The vital Bailey bridge over the Lohit River at Krowti in Kibithoo Circle, Anjaw district has been damaged and closed indefinitely after overloaded trucks attempted to cross it.
According to district administration, a sand-laden truck, carrying load much beyond the permissible limit, got stuck in the middle of the bridge on Tuesday, causing major structural damage to the steel beams. Visuals from the site show the truck hanging precariously on the damaged structure. Vehicular and pedestrian movement has been completely stopped.
This is not just a bridge. The KKG-BSB bridge, also known as Krowti Bridge, is the strategic lifeline for India’s easternmost border.
With its failure:
– India’s first village *Kaho*, along with *Musai and Dong* villages – India’s easternmost settlements near LAC – have been completely cut off.
– Supply of rations, medicines and essential goods to civilians, Army and border-guarding forces deployed along the Line of Actual Control has been hit.
– No alternative all-weather route exists for the area close to the tri-junction of India-China-Myanmar.
Hayuliang MLA Dasanglu Pul said the load capacity is clearly displayed on the bridge but repeated violations by overloaded vehicles have damaged it. “In the interest of public safety, movement has been restricted until further notice. This is a vital lifeline and its safety is collective responsibility,” she said, appealing to drivers to strictly follow load limits.
The district administration and BRO have been directed to conduct a detailed technical inspection and take up repair and restoration on priority. Officials said traffic will be allowed only after structural integrity is certified.
One bridge collapsed, and entire border villages are isolated. As locals say, border connectivity is national security – it is not a routine infrastructure issue and needs immediate restoration.
