Johkasou technology of Japan for effective sewage treatment deployed at 9 sites of Udham Singh Nagar , Uttarakhand

The National Mission of Clean Ganga has deployed the most modern and highly advanced Johkosau technology of Japan across nine sites in Udham Singh Nagar, Uttarakhand which is a modular, prefabricated, on-site treatment system originally developed in Japan for exactly this kind of decentralised challenge in terms of cleaning the sewage going into rivers like pious Ganges.

It may be recalled that most people picture sewage treatment as one massive plant on the edge of a city. But the moot question is what about the towns where the city ends? The clusters where the sewer line never reached ? The settlements too small to justify a full STP, and too scattered to share one ?

For decades, those places had no answer. Their sewage went straight into the river.
Now they do according to Namame Ganga.

Across 9 sites in Udham Singh Nagar, Uttarakhand, NMCG has deployed Johkasou, a modular, prefabricated, on-site treatment system originally developed in Japan for exactly this kind of decentralised challenge.

The units are compact enough to fit on a residential plot. What is significant about this technology is they are installed faster than conventional STPs. They scale up or down to match local flow. And they run on minimal maintenance.

This is what international technology transfer actually looks like. A working pilot in a small Uttarakhand district, treating real sewage, in real time. The Ganga has many tributaries. The solutions can too said Naname Ganga post on X.

According to the the prestigious Japanese company Daiki Axis company specialised in STPs : Big Sewage problems don’t always need big plants as not every problem fits that model. Small towns, scattered settlements, and decentralized urban pockets often don’t generate enough flow to justify a
centralized STP, and don’t have the land to build one.
The answer to this has been resolved as NMCG has deployed the Johkasou technology which is a modular, prefabricated, on-site
treatment system originally developed
in Japan for exactly this kind of
decentralized challenge.

This is a new immensely promising pilot by renowned Japanese company Daiki Axis for decentralised Sewage Management in Ganga Basin. Proven in Japan it is now adapted for Indian conditions. Kudos.
