More than 50 labourers injured some seriously in a crash of trains inside dark pitch tunnel at Chamoli
A big tragic incident has occurred at district Chamoli on the Tuesday night in which two locomotive trains collided head on leading to the injuries to more than sixty passengers , labourers , though no casualty has been reported till yet.
The accident occurred at the TBM site of the THDC Vishnugad – Pipalkoti Hydroelectric Project under construction in Pipalkoti of Chamoli district.
What is important to note here is the fact that the tragic accident has occurred inside the pitch dark tunnel and one can easily arrive at the conclusion or imagine what could have been the result of the injureds.
However, the district magistrate and SP Chamoli have given a statement through a video from the site that seventeen labourers were admitted in Vivekananda hospital and fifty in the district hospital being rendered the best possible treatment.
Though the number of the injured labourers is being given as fifty and some grievously injured there is no casualty till now.
Since this was a head on collision between two locomotive trains carrying laborers numbering more than hundred the situation seems to be grim definitely.
According to the latest information the tragic accident occurred during night on Tuesday probably at 20.15 PM .
The train was carrying 108 labourers to the working spot when all of sudden another train coming from the opposite direction in pitch dark tunnel crashed straightaway injuring more than fifty labourers with majority of them grievously injured all of whom are now in two different hospitals at Pipalkoti Chamoli.
Sources reveal that due to a sudden technical fault, one train collided with another from behind, causing several workers to lose control in the narrow and dark tunnel and were injured. The injured were taken to the hospital for treatment.
The Uttarakhand chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has while expressing his serious concern over this s incident written on X in Hindi saying I am in constant touch with the District Magistrate Chamoli regarding the accident that occurred at the TBM site of the THDC Vishnugad – Pipalkoti Hydroelectric Project under construction in Pipalkoti of Chamoli district. Instructions have been given to provide all the injured with the best medical care and to refer them to higher hospitals as needed.
