Renowned Bollywood actor, Goverdhan popularly famous by the name of Asrani having acted in majority of comic roles popular worldwide for his outstanding role in SHOLAY MOVIE as a Jailor imitating Adolf Hitler had died on Monday in a Mumbai hospital namely Bhartiya Arogya Nidhi Hospital Juhu at the age of 84. His dead body was consigned to flames by his family members without any much publicity as Asrani has wished so. Sounds surprising and shocking indeed. Asrani was admitted in the Juhu hospital four days ago due to the age related ailments. There had been rumours in social media regarding the death of Asrani for the last few days which were denied as rumours by the family. However, this time the news is absolutely correct as it has been confirmed by his secretary Babu Bhai. The news was confirmed by Asrani’s secretary Babu Bhai to Midday. Goverdhan Asrani was considered to be the seasoned actor having acted in more than 155 movies but Sholay being his best hit in which his character as a Jailor was outstanding admired worldwide amongst his millions of fans. Some of the popular , superduper hit movies he acted in are : Dhamaal, Khatta Meetha, Sholay, Dhol, Taqdeerwala, Awara Pagal Deewana, Hera Pheri Bhagam Bhaag, Baalika Badhu, Namak Haraam, Choti see Baat, Bawarchee, Swarg Se Sunder, Guddi, Abhimaan, Hera Pheri 3, Deewane, Welcome, Parichay,Koshish, Aap ki Kasam, Chor Machaye Shor etc etc. Asrani acted with all the top actors of Bollywood viz, Rajesh Khanna, Amitabh Bachchan, Sanjiv Kumar, Dharmendra, Jackie Shroff and almost all heroines. An institution in himself Asrani was born on January 1, 1941 into a middle-class, Sindhi Hindu family in Jaipur and married to actress Manju Bansal, with whom he fell in love while they were working together in films like Aaj Ki Taaza Khabar and Namak Haram. Later the husband-wife duo appeared in several films together.
Asrani’s contribution to the field of comic acting has been invaluable. For several decades, he gave Hindi cinema many memorable characters and earned a special place in the hearts of audiences. He passed from the Poona film Institute and struggled much to reach to such a high position establishing himself as a comic stalwart in Bollywood. The sudden passing away of Asrani is really a huge vaccum created in Bollywood extremely difficult to be filled.
