There seems to be a possibility of the change of Uttarakhand Congress president Karan Mahara and this is imminent in view of the 2027 state assembly elections. A high level meeting in this regard took place at the AICC headquarter in New Delhi in the presence of Kumari Shailja and several CONGRESS leaders viz. the present Congress chief, Karan Mahara, former opposition leader Pritam Singh, the former state president Ganesh Godiyal, leader of the opposition Yashpal Arya and deputy leader of the opposition Bhuvan Kapri etc. This is pertinent here to mention that since the leader of the opposition and deputy leader Yashpal Arya and Bhuvan Kapri are from Kumaon division including the state chief Karan Mahara with the former Congress CM Harish Rawat also from Kumaon, the Garhwal division’s representation in the Uttarakhand Congress is completely negligible.
The two names that are very importantly taking the rounds in the political corridors of Uttarakhand are of Ganesh Godiyal and Pritam Singh, though both of them had already been in this positions earlier, but are from Garhwal and highly competent.
According to reliable sources though the name of Dr. Harak Singh Rawat was also under consideration but the charges of corruption, and the ED, CBI cases against him will definitely give BJP a strong chance to oppose him in case he is designated as state Congress chief.
Therefore his name is now being eradicated out of the list and the choice has now zeroed on to two names i.e. Ganesh Godiyal and Pritam Singh.
It may be recalled that Congress party lost in 2017 and 2022 badly and even all the parliamentary seats had gone to the BJP unambiguously throwing challenge to the leadership of Karan Mahara.
Moreover, the faction ridden Congress party couldn’t get out from this mess under the leadership of Karan Mahara and different sections of state Congress are still functioning differently go ving jolt to the process of Congress unity in the state.
Ganesh Godiyal whose name seems to be on the top of the list has been always vociferous and forthcoming on people centric issues and maximum choice of the people of Uttarakhand as well as Congress men. His vigorous articulation on majority of the issues and proactive involvement has convinced the party high command that he is the best choice as on date sure to bring credibility to the state Congress Party.
However, there are also reports that the high command will also have consultation with a senior most leader Harish Rawat on this issue.
It may be recalled that 2027 is very crucial for the Congress party and it can’t take any risk or chance to give BJP the third opportunity to stage a come back making a hatrik, hence change in state leadership is the need of the hour reveal sources a d this imminent.

The ruling political dispensation apart from alleged various scams and corruption charges coming to the fore, the bad mouthing by the then finance and parliamentary affairs minister of Uttarakhand Prem Chand Aggrawal has also given Congress an opportunity to score the browni points.
Conclusively, the change in state leadership is the need of the hour for Congress party which has lost twice at the hands of the BJP including losing alm the seats in the parliamentary elections as well and the two names in the race are that of Pritam Singh and Ganesh Godiyal with the latter being as a front runner.
