There is a very tragic news coming in from Pokhra Block under the jurisdiction of Pauri Garhwal district, Uttarakhand about the brutal death of an innocent baby girl who has been grabbed by the maneater in prowl for human flesh and then brutally killed. The news has sent shock waves in entire Pokhra Block and Pauri Garhwal district. The parents of the child are in extreme trauma. There have been unaccounted number of human kills by the maneaters in Garhwal and Kumaon divisions of Uttarakhand and the wild life and forest department seems to be apathetic and negligent over maneaters roaming near human habitats on roadsides or near the jungles and making children, senior citizens and women its prey. There are no definite statistics about the human kills by maneaters in Uttarakhand but the figure might have crossed several hundred numbers by now. In the recent past few months ago there have been several tragedies in Kalijikhal, Pauri blocks including near Chouras and Maletha, Dev Prayag , Rikhnikhal, Lansdowne and in Chamoli districts. The wild life and forest department have fixed iron cages number of times and also caught the maneaters but this practice is of no use as after catching these maneaters they free then few kilometres away in jungles and then these carnivores pose threat to the people of other localities. The Uttarakhand government has increased the financial compensation for the bereaved families from three lakhs to five lakhs for per death of human being through wild animals and carnivores leopards. According to the deceased girls uncle after having dinner around 9:30 in the night, this girl was going from the kitchen downstairs to the second floor to sleep and had reached the lower level of her house. By then the leopard pounced on the girl and took her to the bushes below the house. That tiger devoured that flower like girl.
