The superintendent of All India Congress Committee for several decades Chandan Singh Payal who was suffering from Kidney ailment and a diabetic for long under regular dialysis had breathed his last today at the age of ninety. Chandan Singh Payal had rendered more than sixty years of service at All India Congress Committee headquarters in Delhi right from a clerk to office superintendent.
Chandan Singh Nayal was a committed Congressman who had served as a dedicated Congressman and office in charge and as subordinate from the days of late prime minister Jawahar Lal Nehru, Late Lal Bahadur Shastri, Indira Gandhi, Sanjay Gandhi Rajiv Gandhi to Sonia and Rahul Gandhi and in between with Congress president Jitendra Prasad.
He had retired a few years before and was under dialysis.
The then Congress chief minister of Uttarakhand Harish Rawat offered the ticket from Yamkeshwar Assembly to Chandan Singh Nayal but he politely turned down the offer.
All the then chief ministers , union ministers during the Congress rule used to personally know Chandan Singh Payal as the majority of sitting in his office during their visit to AICC to seek various types of help n favours.
Every Congress politician of Uttarakhand used to seek his cooperation whenever they visited AICC.
Chandan Singh Payal was also very supportive to one and all especially those visiting him at AICC always serving them with tea and snacks.
He was always a smiling face with hospitable nature. The entire Nehru Gandhi family was known to him personally as he worked with them for decades generation after generation.
The writer was very personally known to him and used to meet him at his AICC office several times a few years ago.
His passing away is a big loss to AICC where he served for more than six to seven decades.
