AAP, BJP, Congress campaigning in full swing in Delhi. Opinion polls say BJP seats will enhance but AAP to repeat for the third time with razor thin majority ?
The campaigning in Delhi assembly elections is in full swing and all the senior and junior leaders including activists are swiftly busy in propagating their freebies and ideologies on the electorates of Delhi.
The ruling AAM Admi Party’s national convenor and former Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejrival had been active in campaigning since long especially after he was accorded bail by the apex court and he was constrained to transfer his chief ministership to his junior brilliant Kalaji lawmaker Atishi Marlena.
Since then Arvind Kejrival alongwith the former chief minister of Delhi Manish Sisodia and others have been active in their mass contact programmes and public meetings visiting people in every assembly constituency of Delhi at the decentralised levels and drawing tremendous crowds hailing from women community and lower strata of the society in particular.
The issues pertaining to the outstanding development and escalation of quality education standards in Delhi schools and facilities given by Kejrival in health sector to the people of Delhi including free electricity and water bills’ concessions etc have now crossed the saturation point and the national convenor of AAP is now banking majorly on women community’s votes by announcing a new set of freebies of giving them a dole of Rs.2100 every month in addition to the free travel and free treatment to the elders above 60 years in Delhi hospitals.
Apart from these freebies he has also assured the tenants in Delhi of certain impressive concessions in electricity and water.
The AAM ADMI PARTY however, despite being still on the top in terms of sympathy , favour and solidarity of electorates of Delhi is facing anti incumbency in several constituencies especially because it has ruled Delhi for more than a decade.
Kindly recall that Kejrival has this time cut the tickets of 22 sitting legislators to kill the prevailing anti incumbency at the decentralised level.
Moreover, the ruling politician dispensation has been successful in allegedly putting Kejrival and several of his ministers and state lawmakers behind bars on corruption charges pertaining to the new Delhi excise policy related liquor scam, making a section of the Delhi electorates feel convinced that it was involved in corruption, thus degrading its image up to a certain extent.
However, despite all this Kejrival has been always playing a sympathy card by accusing the saffron party government at the centre for constantly being vindictive against them, putting them behind bars because they are transparent, honest, and pro -active in upgrading the schools of Delhi, improving health avenues for the people and giving them freebies in power and water sectors.
The issue of recent permission accorded by the union home ministry on the recommendation of the Delhi LG to commence the ED legal proceedings against Kejrival in the mid of the elections is also being capitalised by the AAP leaders intermittently during elections campaigning substantiating their charges of the ruling party’s vindictiveness.
Meanwhile, the political analysts say that while the ruling saffron party at the centre has tremendously concentrated in Delhi elections putting its entire weight against Arvind Kejrival to win Delhi elections by hook or by crook, the recent announcement of freebies by the party chief JP Nadda even more than AAP’s freebies unambiguously indicate that the BJP is hell bent upon winning this time in Delhi come what may feeling for sure that they are still a back bencher.
Political analysts say that the massive announcements of freebies by BJP , if really crystallizes it may help tilt the AAP’s swinging vote bank in favour of BJP to form the government in Delhi.
But it remains to be seen if this really materialised or not. However, the BJP’s vote bank in Delhi usually remains intact always even despite its defeat in Delhi since 2013 at the hands of AAP.
It may be recalled that the Bhartiya Janata party is out of power in the national capital territory assembly since 1998 and its every attempt during the assembly elections have been met with a failure.
The third important contestant in Delhi which has ruled here for fifteen long years led by late Sheila Dikshit – Congress party seems to be in bit improving position.
But what is important to note here is that AAP and Congress are both the important constituents of India National Inclusive Developmental Alliance but are fighting against each other extremely bitterly accusing each other more than accusing the saffron party which is their combined political enemy.
Meanwhile, according to some of the opinion polls despite the ruling political dispensation doing its best to defeat AAP in Delhi , the latter is still on the top though likely to form the government with merely 48 to 40 MLAs whereas the BJP is believed to win on 25 assembly segments with Congress winning on 3 to 5 seats.
It may be recalled that in 2013 the AAP emerging out of the Anna movement has won by a massive margin winning on 67 seats with BJP getting three and Congress nil.
AAP contested 2020 Delhi Legislative Assembly Elections on all 70 seats and won 62 seats. Arvind Kejriwal took oath as CM for the 3rd time on 16 February 2020. AAP secured 53.57% votes. Its main opponent BJP and Congress secured 38.51% and 4.26% votes respectively.
