Girls’ Football Fever Echoes for First Time in Diwan Singh Ladwal Memorial Stadium




Champawat: The city witnessed a historic moment on Sunday at the Diwan Singh Ladwal Memorial Stadium when girls’ football was played there for the first time. In a demo match ahead of the Kumaon Premier League 2026, 17 and 18-year-old girls from the district displayed tremendous skill and proved that no one is less than anyone.
The match was played between teams from Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya and the Town Nagarpalika and Gramin Kshetra. In a thrilling contest, Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya’s team defeated the Town team 4-1.
The enthusiasm for football among the girls mesmerized the spectators. The match reflected that if rural talent gets proper opportunity and encouragement, they can make a mark not only at national but also at international level.

Later Goals were scored by Manisha who did the second goal while Himani scored the third and Kirti the fourth goal for the Navodaya team.
The chief organiser and leading entrepreneur of Uttarakhand Naresh Ladwal, while welcoming the guests and players said that his late father Diwan Singh Ladwal dedicated his stadium in the memory of his wife Sunita Ladwal, son Gaurav and grandson Gaurish. The stadium was built by Ladwal family.
Their primary objective is to promote women’s football and develop it in a way that it becomes a profession for girls, giving it a respectable place on the global stage. He assured the players that the stadium will always be open for them.
Chief Guest Jeet Singh Muralia, former Principal and current President of the Sports Promotion Committee, appreciated the efforts and said this stadium built by Kul Prashansha Pandit Muralidhar Ghatoti has provided an opportunity for girls’ talent to flourish.
The event was started by Naresh Ladwal, organized to mark the Kumaon Premier League 2026 football tournament to be held on 17 and 18 February, which will see teams from all districts of Kumaon participating. There is great enthusiasm among players and organizers regarding the tournament.
