It’s strange that Dhara Shah, the distraught mother of infant Ariha taken away by the German Child Care authorities in 2021, has not been able to meet the reportedly two most powerful Gujarat leaders in the world Prime Minister Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah so far.

For the uninitiated, she still remains an Indian citizen and voter and so does her husband Bhavesh Shah.

They have been travelling to India off and on for two years desperately trying to meet everyone one possible to tell them their side of the story.

The German Child Care authorities had charged her parents of causing head injury during a bath child abuse finding a blood spot on her diaper. But she she has been absolved of these by the Police but the child remains in the custody of Child Welfare authorities for two years now.

During her forays to India she has already met MPs and celebrities Jaya Bachchan,Shashi Tharoor,Shatrughan Sinha and Kanimojhi and Gujarat Home Minister among others.

She also made a representation before a panel of parliamentarians, mostly consisting of women MPs from all parties. But ‘Beti Bachao’ remains an empty slogan for election manifestos.

On Friday, she was at a meeting of Prayas Manthan Manch telling her side of the story to a gathering of specialists, pediatrics and lawyers frequently breaking into tears.

Her appeal was again for someone to fix up a meeting with the Prime Minister.

Along with her was her brilliant lawyer Suranya Aiyar who has devoted her life and time to saving children from ‘cradle snatchers’ masquerading as Child Care Institutions and NGOs.
Having dealt with the case of the child taken away by the Norway Child Care authorities of Sagarika, later made into a film featuring Rani Mukherjee she says that this trend of separating children from their parents in the garb of Best Interest of the child must be checked as it has ruined families.
Amod K Kanth , Founder General Secretary Prayas JAC Society who patiently sat through the whole proceedings offered full support to Dhara and her husband as “We are against seperation of children from parents unless there are criminal charges, which are not there in this case.”
Even giving the German Child Care authorities the benefit of doubt he said the least they can do is to transfer the child to an Indian child care home.

He offered to help in the process of repatriation and transfer with the huge experience of Prayas in such matters for over 34:years.

Prayas Manthan Manch also appeals to the Prime Minister, Home Minister and the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) to help an Ihe Indian couple reunite with their only child.
