Garhwali Ramlila with Kedar Ghati Women artists being performed in Delhi’s Garhwal Bhawan with Pomp and show for the very first time !

1923 is the centenary year of Garhwal Hiteshini Sabha, the biggest social organisation of Garhwalies living in the national capital which was established in the year 1923 by those living here having migrated from Garhwal, Uttarakhand to Delhi. Panchquian Road, Raja Bazaar, Sewa Nagar, Aliganj, Prem Nagar, Kidwai Nagar etc then were dominated by the people of Garhwal and Kumaon, then part of undivided Uttar Pradesh during the pre independence days with lots of people living in each house, working in government offices in Delhi.

In order to express their unity and subsequent participation in social activities of their Samaj, a handful of the people initially collected monetary contributions and bought this land at Panchquian Road to built Garhwal Bhawan under the banner of Garhwal Hiteshini Sabha, which gradually got converted into a full well studded Bhawan, the nerve centre of Garhwalies n Uttarakhandies in Delhi.

Today it has more than four thousand registered active members with membership enrolment having been stopped presently in view of the case earlier being subjudice. In order to celebrate the centenary celebration of Garhwal Hiteshini Sabha and Garhwal Bhawan completing its historic one hundred years these days, a unique eleven days RAMLEELA is being played in Garhwal Bhawan since the last three days, today being the fourth day.

The speciality about this Ramlila is that all the characters of this historical play are women having come from Kedar valley, Kedarnath of Garhwal Uttarakhand.

Every role is this RAMLEELA is being enacted by the women artists and people in Delhi are enjoying it to the hilt. The credit for this colourful RAMLEELA of Women being displayed for the first time in Delhi’s Garhwal Bhawan daily from 4.00 PM to 7.30 PM goes to the present team of Garhwal Hiteshini Sabha led by Ajay Bisht, its president.

On every day before the initiation of the Ramlila prominent persons of out society from the field of art, literature, theatre, poetry, social activism, etc are welcomed and felicitated. This initiative is indeed a admirable attempt in the field of women empowerment especially those living in distant Kedar Ghati in Garhwal Himalayas.
