PM Narendra Modi holds review meeting on Morbi tragedy, meets injured at hospital and visits tragedy site as well

Prime minister Narendra Modi who was in Gujarat in connection with addressing election rallies and laying down of a Rs 800 crores project at Jambhugoda Gujarat today visited the accident site at Morbi, inspected it, talked to officers and visited the hospital interacting with the patients in Morbi. As soon as the hospital management got the news, about the prime minister’s visit a ground floor vacant ward was fully painted and new beds installed with 40 patients shifted in this new renovated ward. The prime minister met the patients and enquired about the nature of treatment being rendered to them wishing them best wishes for early recovery. Meanwhile in social media a photo graph of the owner of the bridge maintenance probably of a watch company shaking hands with PM has been posted. There are reports that the tender for the maintenance of the swinging bridge was given to this watch company without any tender. The prime minister cut short his programmes and visited the accident site and also the hospital meeting the injured and their anguished family members. He gave strict instructions that anyone responsible for this tragedy should not be spared.

Meanwhile Prime Minister Narendra Modi chaired a meeting in Morbi, Gujarat to review the situation in the wake of the unfortunate bridge mishap there.

Prime Minister said that the authorities must stay in touch with the affected families and ensure that they receive all possible help in this tragic hour.

Officials briefed the Prime Minister on the rescue ops and the assistance provided to those affected.

Prime Minister said the need of the hour is to conduct a detailed and extensive inquiry which will identify all aspects relating to this mishap. He also added that the key learnings from the inquiry must be implemented at the earliest. 

Those present at the meeting were CM Bhupendrabhai Patel, MoS Home Harsh Sanghavi, Minister in the Gujarat Government Brijesh Merja, Chief Secretary of Gujarat, State DGP, local Collector, SP,  Inspector General of Police, MLAs and MPs and other officials.

Earlier, upon reaching Morbi, the Prime Minister visited the site of the bridge mishap. He went to the local hospital where the injured are recovering. He also interacted with those involved in rescue and relief work and lauded their fortitude.
