On the instructions of Uttarakhand CM 9 Excise officials, an SHO and 2 policemen suspended after the death of four persons in Haridwar after illicit liquor consumption !

While in Uttarakhand legal liquor sale is allegedly considered to be the main source of revenue with the excise department generating about Rs 35000 crores every year, the unfortunate clandestine incidents of illicit liquor sales and subsequent deaths are also witnessed. However, the Uttarakhand chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami seems to be extremely strict n vigilant on this front not sparing the culprits as well as the officials of excise department n police for negligence, complacency and laxity. In Haridwar district’s Shivgarh and Phulgarh areas on 9 th September four deaths were reported after the alleged consumption of illicit liquor under Laksar Tehsil.

The chief minister after taking cognisance of this shocking incident suspended 9 excise officers n employees and an SHO of the area including two policemen. This severe action was taken to send across a strong message of deterrent to stop illicit liquor sales in the near future.

According to various news reports the commissioner of the Excise department on the instructions of the chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami suspended the excise officers n employees for inaction, laxity, negligence and complacency towards their duties having failed to curb this menace. The chief minister said that anyone found involved in this matter will not be spared and stringently dealt with.

Kindly recall that on 9 th February in Shiv Garh and Phulgarh areas of Laksar Tehsil under police station Pathri four persons have succumbed to the illicit liquor consumption. Though the dead bodies have been send for postmortem n reports of the viscera expected the DGP Ashok Agrawal has without wasting anytime suspended the SHO n two policemen for negligence of duty. A detailed enquiry has been ordered into this imbroglio and the report expected shortly. However according to news reports there are conflicting versions as the district magistrate of Haridwar has revealed that as per prima facie investigations the deaths do not seem to be because of illicit liquor consumption. The case is under investigation and the final outcome will be revealed after the investigation report is submitted said the news reports.
