The Central Government has appointed 1994-batch AGMUT cadre IPS officer Anurag Kumar as the new Commissioner of Police, Delhi Police. He will replace *Satish Golcha*.

Anurag Kumar was until now posted as Special Director in the Intelligence Bureau (IB) and was handling the Kashmir desk.

The Ministry of Home Affairs’ (MHA) decision, coming just ahead of the Monsoon Session, is being seen as very significant. Satish Golcha’s removal after a tenure of just about 11 months has come as a surprise to many.

It is being speculated that with the appointment of the new Police Commissioner, Delhi Police may see large-scale administrative reshuffling.

Now all eyes will be on how the priorities and strategy of Delhi Police move forward under the new team.
