20-year-old Garhwal Rifles jawan Rohit Rawat martyred in Jammu and Kashmir, village in shock

Dehradun/Ghanshyali: There is very tragic news coming in from strife-torn Jammu and Kashmir where a braveheart of 20 Garhwal Rifles, Rohit Rawat, just 20 years old, sacrificed his life while serving the nation at the porous borders.
According to the latest information, the martyred jawan originally hailed from Mendu Sindhukhal village under Ghanshyali tehsil in Garhwal district. As soon as the news of his martyrdom reached the village and surrounding areas, there was an atmosphere of grief and shock. Family members, villagers and local representatives gathered to pay tribute to the young soldier.
The Garhwal Rifles has a long and proud history of valour. The regiment has produced countless bravehearts who have laid down their lives in the line of duty in Jammu and Kashmir and in other parts of the country. From the icy heights of Kargil and Siachen to counter-insurgency operations in the Valley and border areas, soldiers of the Garhwal Rifles have been at the forefront, upholding the motto “Yudhaya Krit Nischaya” — committed to war.
Over the decades, many sons of Garhwal have attained martyrdom while protecting the nation’s sovereignty, and their sacrifice continues to be a source of pride and inspiration for the region. The martyrdom of jawan Rohit Rawat adds another name to that long list of heroes from the hills who chose duty before self.
Local residents in Mendu Sindhukhal said Rohit was young, dedicated and had joined the Army with a dream to serve the country. The entire village is in mourning, with people describing him as a brave and humble son of Garhwal.
Tributes have poured in from across Uttarakhand for the martyred soldier. Leaders and residents have demanded that the government extend all support to the bereaved family and ensure that the supreme sacrifice of such bravehearts is duly honored.
