FIR Against UKD Leader n former central Vice president Ashutosh Negi For ‘Misleading’ Post on CM Dhami

A case has been registered against former central vice-president of Uttarakhand Kranti Dal (UKD) and activist-journalist Ashutosh Negi on a complaint filed by Uttarakhand Scheduled Caste Commission member Rajesh Koli.
According to the complaint, Negi had shared a post on social media in the past few days in which he allegedly described Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami as being of Nepali origin.
The post further alleged that false cases were being registered against him at the behest of the Dhami government for strongly pursuing the Ankita Bhandari murder case as a journalist and lawyer.
Koli in his complaint termed the post as misleading, hateful and inciting public sentiments. On the basis of the tahrir, police have registered an FIR and started investigation.
Sources said the FIR has been lodged under relevant sections of BNS and IT Act, and provisions of SC/ST Act are also being examined as the complainant is a member of the SC Commission. The exact sections are to be confirmed in the police report.
Meanwhile, Ashutosh Negi has denied the allegations. He said that no individual’s name was mentioned in the social media post in question and despite that a case has been registered against him.
Asutosh Negi, editor of weekly newspaper Jago Uttarakhand, a former lecturer in HNB Garhwal University and advocate has been vocal in the Ankita Bhandari murder case of 2022, in which the son of a former BJP leader is an accused. He has faced multiple cases in the past. In March 2024 he was arrested by Pauri police in connection with an old case of alleged misbehaviour with police and under SC/ST Act, an arrest which was widely condemned by journalist bodies.
As of Sunday evening, no arrest has been made in the latest FIR. Police said that the social media post is being retrieved, its content is being verified by the cyber cell, and Negi will be called for questioning. Further legal action will be taken after examination of electronic evidence.
Efforts to get an official version from the Kotwali police station concerned are underway.
