Uttarakhand Congress chief writes to CEC for removal of DGP Uttarakhand for free, fair and impartial elections

The Uttarakhand Congress has demanded from the Election Commission of India immediate removal of the Director General of Police , Uttarakhand Shri Abhinav Kumar in order to ensure free, fair and impartial elections.

This demand was made by the chief of Uttarakhand Congress Karan Mahara through a letter written in Hindi addressed to the chief election commissioner.

The letter dated 16 th March 2024 with a subject regarding the removal of the DGP Uttarakhand to ensure free and fair elections in the state , states that in view of the national elections already declared to be held on 19 th April immediate removal of the DGP Abhinav Kumar due to his behaviour and having already served with the Uttarakhand CM as his chief secretary ( Pramukh Sachiv) prior to becoming the DGP clearly indicates his proximity with the CM and hence he should be removed from the post of DGP to ensure, free, impartial and fair elections in the state.

The chief of Uttarakhand Congress Karan Mahara says through his letter that he want to acquaint the CEC that the state’s present DGP has already served the CM Uttarakhand Pushkar Singh Dhami as his chief secretary before joining as DGP, indicating that his proximity with the CM is well known.

In addition to this, the BJP leader’s son was found involved in the controversial Ankita Bhandari brutal murderers case and the case is still in the court of law .

According to Mahara , the DGP Abhinav Kumar was allegedly found giving statement in this case as the spokesman of the ruling party which is against his present post’s prestige. He added : Sir, in any election the local police has a very important role to play . But in view of the loyalty of the DGP Abhinav Kumar towards the ruling party in Uttarakhand questions are being raised with regard to the free, fair and impartial elections. He also blamed that if the present DGP is continued to work there is every possibility of the election being effected ordinarily. In view of the conduct of the DGP Abhinav Kumar he should be immediately removed from his post to ensure free, fair and impartial conduction of elections in the state wrote Congress chief of Uttarakhand to the chief election commissioner .
