Despite tremendous opposition by the non BJP parties, the India National Inclusive Developmental Alliance the Waqf Amendment Bill which was passed by both the houses of parliament has been accorded the consent by the president Draupadi Murmu making it a Law known as The Waqf Amendment Act 2025 which was earlier known as The Waqf Act when introduced in 1995 by the then Congress government. After the signature of the President Draupadi Murmu the Gazette of India has been issued saying that now the Waqf Act 1995 will be pronounced as The Waqf Amendment Act 2025 becoming the Law. The Congress party and the INDIA constituents have been opposing it with Owaisi of AIMIM being the most vociferous opponent. There was eight hours of debate on this bill after it being passed first in the Lok Sabha and then in the Rajya Sabha. In Lok Sabha the bill was passed by ruling party BJP led NDA supporting it by 288 votes against the opposition of 232 votes. In Rajya Sabha too it was passed by 128 votes of ” YES” against the opposition’s 95 votes of “NO” opposing it. While the opposition strongly opposed the bill saying that the ruling party has no right to interfere in the religious Waqf Act playing with the sentiments of the minorities repeatedly , the ruling BJP claimed that by introducing this new Law not only will the poor Muslims be benefitted largely it will also bring transparency and integrity in the functioning of Waqf Board and bringing to end the existing large scale corruption in various suspicious dealings of the Waqf Board. The new Law will also bring efficiency in the functioning and management of the Waqf property at the Pan INDIA level towards which fingers of suspicion were being raised time and again said the BJP leaders.
