It was indeed great to meet the Mount Everest conqueror sons of the first ever conquerors of Mount Everest – Sir Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay !

It was indeed pleasure meeting the icons of adventurous mountaineering , worthy sons of great fathers, having conquered highest peak of the world ” The Mount Everest” , with their fathers being the first ever climbers of the highest peak of the World making a world record – Peter Hillary and Jamling Norgay ( both sons) at the Indian Mountaineering Foundation Complex, opposite Anand Niketan , South Campus, New Delhi on 5 th June, 2023 where both of them were felicitated by the President of Indian Mountaineering Foundation – Harshwanti Bisht, prestigious Arjuna Award winner and herself one of the women conquerors of the Mount Everest. Interacted with both of the living legends Peter Hillary and Jamling Norgay on their experiences as the tallest mountaineers of the globe having also made an outstanding record of Father and Son duo conquering Mount Everest, indeed a rare feet. Sir Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay conquered the highest peak Mount Everest in the month of May 1953, just six-seven years after India attaining independence while both the sons of these legends climbing the highest peak in the year 1990 and 1996 respectively. Hats off to the both seniors n juniors duo. Sounds immeasurable and ofcource it is. They travelled all the way from New Zealand and Nepal to acknowledge the honours accorded to both of them by Indian Mountaineering Foundation India. Sir Edmund Hillary’s son Peter Hillary who is 68 years old and Tenzing Norgay’s son Jamling Norgay are both involved and dedicated in collecting financial aid for the needy and hapless through their various institutions and efforts for protecting environment.

Their felicitations on the occasion of the “Platinum Jubilee”, of their fathers’ conquering the highest peak of the Himalayas in the year 1953 having completed 70 years, was a befitting tributes to both the mountaineering legends on the International Environment day. The event was well attended by intellectual dignitaries, journalists, mountaineers, several eminent personalities and dedicated budding mountain climbers. I personally enjoyed the event because meeting such personalities of global fame who’d contributed so much in encouraging this adventurous sport opening doors for budding mountain climbers especially women, empowering them enabling the first woman climbers like Bachendri Pal of Uttarakhand to conquer Mount Everest and encouraging other women as well to follow suit is no ordinary task. God bless them all.

Kindly recall that son of the first Mount Everest Victor Edmund Hillary , 68 years old Peter Hillary is an adventurous New Zealander mountaineer who has to his credit becoming the Mount Everest Victor in 1990 as his father did in 1953, and also being the first record breaker father son duo to climb Mount Everest.

An adventurist mountaineering enthusiast Peter Hillary has achieved two summits of Everest, outstanding feats indeed – an 84 day challenging trek across ANTARTICA to the South Pole and another expedition guiding astronaut NEIL Armstrong inorder to land an Aircraft at the North Pole.

Always following his father’s footsteps as an adventurous mountaineering Peter Edmund Hillary never gave up even after climbing the highest peak Mount Everest as his father and further climbed many of the world’s major peaks this on 19 June, 2008 completing all the SEVEN SUMMITS, successfully achieving triumph by reaching the top of all the peaks of seven continents, a rare achievement including conquering Denali in Alaska.

Similarly, the son of the legendary first Mount Everest climber Tenzing Norgay’s, Jamling Tenzing Norgay is also the conqueror of Mount Everest in 1996 with a team of mountaineering led by David Breshears that included Mountaineers ED Vieschurs and Araceli Segarra, the adventurous journey of the success documented in a 1998 IMAX film titled “Everest”.

Following the footsteps of his iconic first Mount Everest winner father – he too became the second father son due to conquer Mount Everest after Peter Hillary, son of Edmund Hillary who also conducted a challenging Ocean to Sky expedition in the Ganges via his Jet boat in 1977, an outstanding feat against rising gushing waves of the Ganges. This was Edmund Hillary’s last big expedition documented by Michael Dillon.

Also an author of an outstanding book highlighting his late iconic father’s summit experience and his own in his book titled ” TOUCHING MY FATHER’S SOUL, Jamling Tenzing Norgay primarily highlights the brave expedition works executed by dedicated n brave Sherpas to help wealthy climbers reach summit to obtain income by guiding them throughout and also carrying their luggage etc.

His book is also famous for highlighting the most tragic and challenging expedition of 1996 when he successfully climbed Mount Everest but twelve climbers succumbed to the badly n disastrous inclement weather on May 1996.
