How bridges are falling in Uttarakhand in just a rain, Raises several question marks ?

Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh has during the monsoon season witnessed several natural disasters including cloud burst incidents and over flooding of rivers leading to massive destruction of bridges, roads, pathways, houses, shops and even government and private buildings.

There have been hundreds of landslides and overflowing of rivers due to excessive rains destroying and demolishing several houses and even hotels from the ground including cars, heavy vehicles etc getting drowned in the gushing river water.

However, the fact remains that there have been tremendous violation of building and environmental laws by the powers that be as well as the inhabitants of Uttarakhand including businessman n building contractors who have built expensive hotels, buildings, commercial and corporate structures as well as multistorey residential buildings near the riversides despite the hard fact that the successive governments and administrations have been issuing warning signals time and again.

The environment unfriendly massive development in Uttarakhand like all weather roads worth of more than 14000 crores and 80 % of the Rishikesh Karnprayag rail project going underground thus making the already weak and fragile mountains hollow from inside posing immense threat to Uttarakhand which is already in Zone 5 and highly prone to earthquakes. During the construction of all weather roads it has been revealed that lakhs of trees were allegedly cut and mountains broken by huge dynamite explosions including illegally throwing lakhs of tonnes of silt and muck including heavy boulders n stones in the Ganges and it’s, tributaries not only polluting the pious river but also adversely affecting its smooth flow filling its base and killing the depth of rivers.

According to various news reports the contractors in Uttarakhand are really minting tremendous profits in unholy alliance with some engineers and the staff dealing with awarding contracts building substandard bridges in which the politicians too are major party.

The case of Kotdwar is in front of everyone where a huge bridge constructed with a huge budget of crores of rupees was damaged during rains not once but twice and nobody has been made accountable directly or indirectly.

However, what punitive action has been taken in this massive corruption is anyone’s guess.

Meanwhile, the Vyasi Bridge on Thalisain Pithasain Motor Marg has been completed damaged literally coming down during rains.

According to a Twitterati – this bridge was constructed by a contractor who executed the job of this bridge on 24% less expenditure.

Just imagine, how much money must have changed hands to give this tender to an incompetent and corrupt contractor.

This is one instance and in Uttarakhand such bridges in the interiors are being awarded to many such Contractors by corrupt officers as well as politicians who allegedly part with a big amount putting the lives of people in danger.

Today Uttarakhand’s fiscal deficit has crossed Rs 65000 crores which once used to be just 4 thousand crores on 2002 to 2004. This is how the huge money of public exchequer is being allegedly misused.
