Documentary ‘Awaargi’ on Kamal Joshi Screened at Doon Library to Commemorate His Life and Work

Doon Library and Research Centre today organized a successful and moving screening of the acclaimed documentary film _’Awaargi (Wanderlust)’_, based on the life and personality of renowned photographer, poet, traveler and photo-journalist *Kamal Joshi*. The event was held to remember his contributions and multi-faceted personality.
The program was attended in large numbers by eminent citizens, intellectuals, artists, students and film lovers from the fields of literature, journalism, photography, cinema, environment and education.
The event began with a welcome address by *Shri Chandra Shekhar Tiwari*, Program Officer, Doon Library and Research Centre. He said that Kamal Joshi was not just an outstanding photographer, but also a sensitive poet, a curious wanderer and a true devotee of nature. He added that Kamal Joshi’s life is a source of inspiration for the new generation and his vision encourages us to become more sensitive towards nature, society and humanity.
The program was anchored by *Smt. Geeta Gairola*, who eloquently presented the story of Kamal Joshi’s life, his creative journey and the background of the documentary’s making to the audience.
After the screening, the *Director and Producer of the film, Jaydev Bhattacharya*, shared his experiences about the research, production process and the challenges faced during the making of the documentary. He said that despite limited resources, the aim was to bring forth those aspects of Kamal Joshi’s personality and work that must reach future generations. “This film is not just a biography of an individual, but a living document of sensitive vision, love for nature and human values,” he said.
*Senior litterateur Smt. Kanwaljit Kaur* spoke in detail about the emotional depth, language and profound sensitivity towards nature in Kamal Joshi’s poetry. She said, “Kamal Joshi’s poems are the soul of his personality. Without understanding his poetry, it is not possible to fully understand Kamal Joshi.”
Thereafter, *Shri Nicholas Hoffland* shared his views and said that _’Awaargi’_ is not merely a documentary, but a powerful cinematic record of memories, emotions and a creative life. He appreciated the research, presentation and emotional depth of the film.
During the open discussion over tea, members of the audience also shared their thoughts. Participants said that documentaries of this kind play a vital role in preserving cultural, creative and intellectual heritage for coming generations.
The event concluded with a heartfelt tribute to Kamal Joshi and a vote of thanks to all the guests, speakers, participants and audience members.
